Pick n Pay Wine & Food festival arrives in Johannesburg this August
TASTE IT. LOVE IT. TAKE IT HOME
If you’re looking for the ultimate weekend outing in Johannesburg this August, the Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival is bringing together South Africa’s best wines, gourmet food and immersive tasting experiences for two unforgettable days at The Wanderers Club.
Returning to Johannesburg on 8 and 9 August, the festival will showcase 70 of the country’s leading wine estates, taking festivalgoers on a journey through South Africa’s celebrated wine regions, complemented by exceptional food, live entertainment and interactive culinary experiences.
From Cap Classique, wine-based cocktail and Champagne tastings, to delicious offerings from the Pick n Pay Fresh Food Market including sushi, artisanal cheese and charcuterie boards, gourmet burgers and wood-fired pizzas, there’s something to suit every palate. Guests can also relax with friends on the lawns while enjoying live entertainment and a vibrant festival atmosphere.
Adding to the experience is the ever-popular Pick n Pay Tasting Room, flavoured by Robertsons Spices, where guests can enjoy expertly paired wines and gourmet canapés hosted by celebrity chefs and leading winemakers. For those looking to shake things up, the Pick n Pay Liquor Mixology Theatre, presented by Diageo, returns with interactive cocktail-making masterclasses that combine premium spirits with wine in fresh, trend-forward serves.
The festival stage will keep the energy high throughout both days with a jam-packed programme of live entertainment, competitions and lucky draws, giving festivalgoers plenty of chances to win fantastic prizes. Saturday afternoon’s headline performance comes from Courus, while Stones & Bones will close out the festival on Sunday, ensuring a memorable soundtrack to an unforgettable weekend.

One of the festival’s most popular features remains the opportunity to discover, purchase and take home favourite wines directly from participating producers. Festivalgoers can enjoy exclusive event promotions and Smart Shopper savings while stocking up on wines tasted throughout the day.
“The Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival is all about making great wine accessible and enjoyable,” says Gavin Levers, Head of Liquor at Pick n Pay. “Whether you’re discovering a new favourite, learning from South Africa’s top winemakers or simply enjoying great food with friends, the festival offers a relaxed and engaging experience where people can taste, learn and buy all in one place.”
As one of South Africa’s largest celebrations of local wine, the festival also highlights the strength and diversity of the country’s wine industry while creating valuable opportunities for producers to connect directly with consumers. It reflects Pick n Pay’s ongoing commitment to supporting local producers and making premium food and wine experiences more accessible to South Africans.
With Women’s Day falling on Sunday, 9 August, and the public holiday extending into Monday, there’s never been a better excuse to gather friends and family for a relaxed day out. Whether you’re a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply looking for the perfect weekend outing, the Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival Johannesburg promises a celebration of flavour, discovery and great company.
